3 MOVEMENT

(Excerpt from the world premiere)
The third and last movement is a kind of summary of the previous movements in terms of mood
and character. It combines rhythmic-dancing as well as singing-lyrical passages:
(III Mov. – “rhythmical” thematic idea - Joropo)
The “rhythmical” idea artistically reworks the Venezuelan national dance Joropo. Typical here is
the simultaneous execution of the 3/4 and 6/8 beat using largely simple cadential harmony. The
extraction of these structural elements and their combination with Albertz's own compositional
style and characteristic tonal language expanded the boundaries of this dance. Within the
framework of a contrapuntal texture, the development of new interesting and very lively rhythmic
and harmonic progressions became possible.
Thus, the process was similar to that of the chaconne dance form several centuries ago: originally
also a folk dance, it was detached from its Hispano-American environment and transformed into
an independent artistic form (see also: Curt Sachs World History of the dance, p. 371, Norton
Library 1963).
