SEF ALBERTZ’S PIANO CONCERTO | Work insights

                                                    SOME INSIGHTS
INTO THE CONCEPTUAL BACKGROUND OF THE COMPOSITION

The following remarks do not claim to be a musicological analysis. The music certainly speaks for
itself and does not necessarily demand a commentary. However, in order to provide a
comprehensive insight in a short time, concrete elements that played an important role in the
conception of the work will be named in the text below.

In addition to characteristic thematic ideas of each movement, some structural components run
through the entire work, such as the following two motifs:

These motifs appear in a variety of ways - sometimes clearly recognizable, sometimes transposed,
inverted or mixed, sometimes rhythmically combined, thereby both augmented and diminished,
               and so on.
In this way, the listener experiences the sound material always new, and at the same time with a
feeling of recognition, a feeling that it 'somehow seems familiar', as if in a kind of small puzzling
               sensory game:

                                                         (I Mov.)

                          (I Mov. - mm. 55-56) (III Mov. - mm. 3-6)

All photos & images © by Florentyn Music
